SAN CARLOS DE BARILOCHE

The city is known for its architecture and for being located in a privileged area for the beauty of its landscapes, consisting of mountains, woods, lakes, glaciers, and lush vegetation.
It is one of the most highly populated cities in the province of Río Negro, and one of the most important tourist centers in Argentina.
Its architecture consists of stone and wooden buildings with slate hip roofs, that give the city a particular appearance.  Among the most outstanding groups of building we can name the Civic Center, where most  important governmental offices are located.
It is a city to be visited and enjoyed all throughout the four seasons of the year.  In Spring and Summer it is perfect for the excursions and outdoor activities; in winter the snow offers a unique landscape; besides it counts with one of the most important Argentinean resorts to practice ski in South America: the Catedral Hill.  The well-known National Festivity of the Snow is an important, international, sportive, social, and artistic event.

Small Circuit

It is one of the most traditional excursions to do in Bariloche, and it involves a broad trip. The journey starts in Bariloche on Bustillo Ave., going round the Nahuel Huapi Lake. At km.8 you can find Isla Bonita, from where the Huemul Island can be seen.  Ten kilometers ahead, after going through different landscapes, you reach the foot of the Campanario Hill.  From the foot of the mountain, a cable car takes the visitors to the 1,500 meters over the level of the sea.  From the top, the most beautiful and complete views from the surroundings can be seen. Going back to Bustillo Ave., near the Yacht Club at km.20, you get into the San Pedro Peninsula to have access to the viewpoint, the cave of the Virgin, and Puerto Bueno can be visited.

After going around the San Pedro Peninsula, you arrive at km.23, where the Llao Llao Villa is located, where you can see the San Eduardo Chapel and the magnificent Llao Llao Hotel, a work of the great architect Alejandro Bustillo, that was opened in 1939, and that has come to be a true symbol of the place.  Over the Lake the important and picturesque Pañuelo Port can be seen, at km. 25 where the catamarans and motorboats can be boarded to Victoria Island and Blest Port (among other rides).
>From here on, the road goes into the Llao Llao Peninsula, and at km. 30, appears a road leading to Villa Traful, over the Llao Llao Bay.

Later, after going by  Escondido Lake (Hidden Lake), leaving the Peninsula behind, at km. 33, the road goes over the bridge of the Angostura Stream, which enables the joining of the waters of the Lakes Moreno West and East with the Nahuel Huapi.

Then you arrive at Panoramic Point, at km.40, located at 945 meters over the level of the sea, from where you can see the majesty of the landscape formed by the Moreno Lake and the Llao Llao Peninsula.

Then, going round the Moreno West Lake, al km.42 there is a bridge that enables you to cross the lake to walk along the shore of the El Trébol Lagoon, and then at, km. 45 you go back to the original road to go back to Bariloche.

Catedral Hill

With 200 hectares of ski slopes and 77 km. of ski runs, it offers the skier several areas to practice ski and snowboard.  It has 32 means of elevation, with a capacity of 20,225 people per hour.  Beginning, intermediate, and advanced skiers go there each year, as well as international competitors.
Every year, the National Festivity of the Snow is celebrated with the fireworks of the Catedral Hill and the descent of torches that catch the attention of, and move all those arriving from different parts of the country and the whole world to live the magic of this Hill.

Tronador Hill and The Larches Cascade

Tronador is the highest hill of the area (3,554 m.).  With three peaks: the Argentinean, the Chilean, and the International; and 8 leagues of glaciers, it is a spectacle not to be missed.
The road starts in Bariloche, on Onelli St. that leads to National Road No 258. You go round Gutiérrez Lake, and through the rivers Pilmayén and Melgarejo.  A few kilometers on you go along the shore of the Mascardi Lake. Later, to your right the National Road No 254 appears, and the Tronador road. You should take that road crossing the bridge over the Manso Superior River up to Pampa Linda.  Almost at the end of the road, you find the Manso River Glacier, commonly called Ventisquero Negro, because it is covered with sand and stones.  The tour ends a little farther, at the foot of the Tronador Hill, where, walking along a path, you can get to a great rocky natural amphitheater called Garganta del Diablo (Devil's Throat), from where you can see a thin, and very high waterfall, which is meltwater.

There is a variation to this excursion, a tour to the Larches Cascade.  Instead of crossing the bridge over the Manso Medio River, you go on the road around the Los Moscos Lake and the Manso River, up to a 300 m. path, that leads you to the impressive cascade, within a beautiful environment of larches and moss, where you can see the Manso River hitting the rocks violently, all throughout a 20m. slope.

Victoria Island and Myrtle's Wood

Departing from Pañuelo Port, at km. 225 of Ezequiel Bustillo Ave., and after having sailed for an hour and forty minutes, you arrive at the largest island on the lake, it is 3,700 hectares wide, and 20 km. long. In this island, it is possible to go on excursions and trekking rides, around the conifers nursery, as well as to visit its several lagoons and its four ports, and enjoy the presence of the only colony of fresh water cormorants, the imperial cormorants, pheasants, peacocks, woodpeckers, and hummingbirds.
With important restaurants and a modern cable car, this island represents an important natural reserve, that also has cave paintings over 500 years old.
Then, you get on board again, to go to Quetrihue Port, in the Peninsula of the same name, where you can visit the world- wide known Myrtle's Wood. This is a one of a kind species of trees that are over a hundred years old. The Bark of this tree is cold, completely smooth, and of cinnamon color; it has white flowers, similar to the lemon blossom, and purple fruit of a nice taste.  The Myrtle's Wood has been declared a Natural Monument. Once the guided tour is over, you go back to Pañuelo Port.

SAN MARTIN DE LOS ANDES

The city of San Martín de los Andes is the main tourist center of the province of Neuquén.  Built between the East margin of the of the Lake Lácar and the fertile valley of Vega Maipú, it is picturesque, of an alpine style, with wooden buildings and wide paved streets of a neat design.  It is the most important city near the Lanín National Park, and counts with excellent tourist infrastructure, that makes it the turning point to travel all over the area.  The summer season lasts up to April, and in June, a new movement starts with tourists and skiers that visit the Chapelco Hill ski resort.  The most important spot of the city is the Civic Center, around San Martín Square.  There, you can find the Town Hall, the post office, and some banks.  The Lake Lácar covers an area of 50 square km., and it is 25 km. long, and 58 km. deep; it is surrounded by luxuriant natural woods, that are commercially exploited.

Chapelco Hill

Only 20 km. away from San Martín de los Andes, long after Spring has begun, Chapelco offers you to enjoy of an unforgettable ski season.  It is a modern ski resort that counts with 29 slopes properly signaled, and for all levels; and excellent ski school, and a well-trained patrol team that makes it one of the safest and most reliable ski resorts in the world.

VILLA LA ANGOSTURA

In the South of the province of Neuquén, and placed right in the middle of the lakes of the Nahuel Huapi National Park, you can find this utterly beautiful mountain villa. There you have the entrance to the Myrtle's National Park, which is the only pure forest of this species in the world.  It has a very nice architecture, of a mountain style, with buildings facing the Nahuel Huapi, some of them quite luxurious, and with a spectacular view.  It is a breathtakingly beautiful place, full of places hardly ever visited by men, that enable you to enjoy the peacefulness and silence.  The city is perfectly located for those who love sportive fishing, ski _ at Bayo Hill__ and adventure tourism, with the possibility to go trekking, climbing, mountain bike riding, kayak, and so on.  
Its impressive landscape gives you the possibility to go on several excursions, either on the lakes or the woods. You can visit the famous Myrtle's Wood, and the wonderful Manzano Bay, and, among other options, reach streams and cascades surrounded by flowers.

Circuit of the Seven Lakes.

Known as "The Road of the Seven Lakes", it is in fact a stretch of the National Road No 234, that joins the cities of San Martín de los Andes and Villa La Angostura.  Being the main tourist road of the area, this path joins in only 104 km., seven water mirrors of matchless beauty that can be watched from the road. panoramic viewpoints, 2 National Parks _Lanín and Nahuel Huapi.  Besides, there is a possibility to reach four other water mirrors that, although they do no belong to the group of the 7 lakes, they are really close to them.

EL BOLSÓN

In the middle of the Argentine Patagonia, in the province of Río Negro, El Bolsón surprises you with its mountain landscape with little valleys that form the Comarca Andina.  A great variety of landscapes, formed by abundant rivers such as the Azul (Blue), the Pedregoso, or the Manso, and lovely lakes such as the Puelo, Epuyén or Cholila, draw the geography of the place.
People of the land, Mapuches, in their original language, chose these valleys to rest during their nomadic life, to them some muleteers, and descendents from Europeans added, who started modeling the character of the population.

El Bolsón, only 300 meters over the level of the sea, at the foot of Piltriquitón Hill, of 2,230 meters, shows the geographical characteristics of the area, with deep valleys, such as Puelo Lake, only 200 meters over the level of the sea, or El Hoyo, capital city of Fine Fruits, near the Pirque Hill.  During the summer, the popular parties are another reason to know the productive and cultural riches. The quality and diversity of the production of the region, in many cases organic production of vegetables, dried flowers, lupul, fine fruit, cow and goat milk cheese, sweets, liquor, ice-cream, tulips, smoked-trout, evidence, as in many other forms, the devoted love the locals put in what they do.  Furthermore, you will be able to visit the premises, and share details of the production.
